Hi Guys and Girls,
I have an odd problem with starting my bike,on a kick start it will fire up straight away, but yet with the electric start it just winds the motor over?? I have done the obvious and made sure the side stand is properly up.
the kill switch works perfect, totally baffled. Any ideas please

just got a harley exhaust pipe, it's designed as part of a quad 883 exhaust, so it should work swimmingly at 200cc instead of 221. I'll be putting it on in a couple months, when i get access to a welder, let you know how that works.

I started this thread, because i have a shineray xy200gy 2007. i bought it slightly damaged and have been doing work on it. I had some issues with the throttle sticking, pulled apart the carb and freed it up. I'm currently in the processes of switching out some of the more important engine bolts for stronger steel ones (the stock ones are very cheap and break easily beware!). I was able to get replacements that are much better at napa auto parts, they should keep the engine intact longer. I've gone over the bike and secured several things better, i advise going over the whole bike bolt by bolt and checking them all, it's worth it, the bike probably didn't cost you too much, and a little work on your part will go a long way in making it a better machine overall. My forks, front rim and handle bar are all a little off, the handle bar is pretty bent. I plan on replacing them all with second hand parts from a local salvage yard, I'll let you know how it goes. The salvage yard also has a honda trx200 (the quad has a perfect carb match for my bike), i also plan to switch this out, to get a little better gas mileage a little more speed.

This thread is for anyone who is having trouble with their shineray, has repaired their shineray, or anyone who has modified their shineray in any useful ways.

I pretty sure you should be able to get parts at www.roketa.com they don't have the xy200gy listed specifically but shineray uses almost all the same parts on all their bikes, they have standardized parts for you size and model, and they're pretty easy to find, i haven't ordered any yet myself but they seem pretty legit. Also, depending on what parts you need, this bike is pretty much copied off the honda xr200, they use a lot of the same parts, i just pulled apart the carb on my xy200gy and it's an exact copy, honda has several other models which use the same carb as well, (trx200 and atc200 several others as well). Parts aren't quite as simple to find as for other bikes, but with a little research you'll find you do have several options, either go original china parts, most of which are quite cheap, or give your bike a little performance boost with some second hand honda parts, if you can get em.

Hi and welcome,

Depends on what quad you are driving, I have the 250STXE and have set the exhast valve at 0.9mm and intake at 0.6mm and this works well for me. Some have set the valves at ex. 0.15 and in. 0.10, but I think these settings are too big(the valves will rattle like crazy). You will need to try and see.

Cheers Johnny  Grin

Hi and welcome,

It is not uncommon for the bearings to go on the 250STXE, I would suggest that you change your bearings to SKF (although these are now made in China as well, however the quality is better). It is not a difficult job to do yourself. If you plan on doing it yourself, let me know and I will give you the SKF part numbers for the bearings. It is a good idea to replace the bearings with sealed bearings, that way you will not have to keep pumping grease into them.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no work shop manual available. I have written to Shineray a couple of times, to no avail. I change oil at the following intervals; before first motor start (straight after delivery, the chinese oil is a little suspect  Grin) then at 300, 500, 1000 and then contrary to what a lot have said Roll Eyes, every 2000 k, if you use a good oil (mineral and not synthetic in accordance with the hand book) it will not be necessary to change oil more often (besides it being a waste of money). Make sure you run your quad in properly (keep the speed down for the first 1000k). In terms of what each service requires, there are only things like checking brake pads and discs, clutch free play, lights etc. These should all be checked at regular intervals anyway. Make sure that all your nuts and bolts are tight (loktite helps) I have changed all my nuts and bolts for stainless steel, that way they are not going to rust like the original. The chinese steel is not up to our standards, so if you are not carefull the original screws are likely to break relatively easily.

You will not gain any great increase in hp by simply changeing the exhaust. You will gain a little more speed by changing the sprocket ratios (but not a lot).  You will also improve the cooling by changing the main jet in your carbi and perhaps an open air cleaner (sports air cleaner).  You will also need to re-adjust your valves, they are normaly set too tight at the factory (that way they run quiet) this is not much good for cooling the engine, you also run the risk of burning the valves. So at you first oil change, adjust your valves.

For any additional tips, have a look at some of the other posts I have written.

I hope you enjoy getting your hands dirty, cos that is what you are in for with these quads, and besides they are a lot of fun.

If I can be of any more help, let me know. Cheers and have fun

Johnny

Did you buy the camshaft and carb as off the shelf parts or did you have to get them custom made?

We custom made all parts from orginal parts.
But we have send cam shafts to Shineray for test.
One more thing on your bike are the old exhaust mounted (in pics) that we have are the new one, that is more straight so you get more rpm. With that you have you get more tourqe from buttom and less rpm on top.

There has been little change since my first post. Since we modify everything here in Sweden so it has become more of production costs. So a 280cc forged piston kit costs about 470euro and one set of cam shafts around 300euro, then the postage will be at these prices.
BUT it is a big but! I can not say how much more power it becomes with the 280cc, the most noticeable is the cam shafts allows you to wind the engine more and where to get more power on top. So I can recommend is replace cam shafts and above all sharpen up the hole in the carburetor. It should be ground so it looks the same on the bottom edge up to the edge of the inlet hole, this makes about 30% larger intake.
We have also run with one Mikuni vm34 with good results, but you have to change manifolds to mount around or original from honda nx 250 Dominator.
For more questions about tuning the X2 or X2 just talk, please send email to me directly, so you can get answer immediately.
