The Shineray 170MM engine is more then capable of handling a 25cc increase to engine capacity without effecting the drive line or cooling system performance. Fuel injection is not an option for this engine, if altitude is a concern my suggestion would be to go for the MV30 CV carburetor option which meters air and fuel more efficiently at varied altitudes. General Discussion / Re: Carb upgrade ( PZ30 to Mikuni VM3* )
« on: October 25, 2012, 09:53:12 PM »
By converting to the TK MV30 CV carburetor as used on the Shineray XY250GY-2 MX in Australia, a modest 10% increase in power and a noticeable increase in throttle response is achieved. This conversion requires the replacement of the inlet manifold to enable the slip on TK brand carb to fit.

With this inlet manifold you can also choose THE Mikuni VM34mm carb which will increase peak power at high RPM but at the cost of power down low in the RPM range.

Your question in relation to jet sizes and power in carburetors. Bigger jets don't mean more power; jet size is determined by volume and speed of air an engine draws in and then finding the appropriate size jet to achieve the correct air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1 or close to it.

Ok remove the air box lid, so the air filter is in full view, then go for another ride with it off and see if that has a positive effect, if not replace the spark plug with NGK part No CR9EH. Only perform one alteration at a time not all at once, so that you can narrow it down. We have a full range of sprockets, what sizes are you after?

The X2 Enduro & Motard suffer from a poorly seated spark plug cap. Frequently the water tight grommet that seals the cap into the head is very tight and will push the spark plug cap just far enough away from the spark plug under use, so that the misfire syptom only arises at high load or RPM due to the high resistance created. Push the cap down as hard as you can so that the threaded tip of the spark plug engages with the cap.
